the pact

25 01 2010

So, I stepped on the scale this morning, and about lost my marbles. It’s not that I feel really overweight or anything, it’s more that I want to get back to how much I weighed in High School.

It’s my weakness, sugar. I’m always grabbing a candy bar when I’m checking out at the grocery store, always giving in when the kids I nanny for have candy and offer me some. It’s just not good, and I need to stop eating so much! So, given this information…

IΒ have decided to make a huuuuge change for the next 6 months: no sugar… i.e.: no candy, donuts, soda, cookies, etc.Β

My good friend, “Rachel” and I have made a pact that if either of us eat any sort of sweets, we have to pay the other person $100.00. This should kick off our diet pretty well… I don’t want to pay anyone $100.00 because I ate one piece of aΒ chocolate bar!

I am also starting the Couch Potato to 5k running program with her and another friend.

If you would like to keep an eye on my progress, check out my Losing It page. πŸ™‚

Good luck with the 5k; that’s great length race! A lot of fun. Make sure your first one doesn’t have any hills. πŸ™‚

Dear Rachel, I saw Jane eating sugar the other day. She owes you $100

vegan- haha, seriously! my first day doing the c25k was today and it wasn’t bad at all… until i got to a hill-y part of the path! πŸ˜‰

witty- that would be perfectly fine since ‘the pact’ started today, i could have eaten as much as i wanted to “the other day.” πŸ˜› take that.

Good luck with the diet!

I’m a sweets girl myself. The only “diet” I could stick to that helped me was Weight Watchers. I started eating no sugar added, fat free ice cream from Wal-Mart (I was insanely picky!) and found that to be a good substitute for treats.

ashley- i’m actually on weight watchers! which is why i thought it might actually not be as hard to do the sugar thing. i suppose we’ll see! “rachel” and i actually were thinking no ice cream, candy, etc. AT ALL. even if it’s sugar free… we may be changing our plans later though! haha. πŸ™‚

Cruel, Martin. That is absolutely cruel. I was running errands earlier and this place had a huge bowl of candy on the counter! Sooo hard to resist! Mmm… cherry pie…

Dude, I feel you. I’m DETERMINED to get back to my high school weight, which is — apparently — like one toddler’s worth less than I am now. I win at life πŸ˜‰

I hear you on the sugar front. Coffee & me? Lovers for life.

Dude, I couldn’t live without Starbucks Caramel Macchiatos. Which is why that’s an acception to our pact. πŸ™‚

Good Luck!!! It’s so much easier to do it with a friend. I would love to get back to my high school weight. I remember being 16 and hating how I looked and now I wish I could look close to that again.

Wow. That takes a lot of determination to not have sweets for 6 months. I will def come back to see how you are doing. What I do is every 19 days I allow myself to eat whatever it is that I want. It keeps your metabolism guessing and does not let it sink back into second gear.

Best,

Hannah Katy

wow … i am totes a salt person. i will eat a giant bag of frito scoops in one night, but i can turn down a brownie. huh.

quitting soda should definitely help. everyone says that, but it’s TRUE. i had a 2-3 diet sodas a day habit for along time, slowly quit last spring and LOST 10 pounds in the next few months. also, started making delicious salads every day for lunch, working on upping fiber and protein intensenly – including post-workout protein shakes, and it really made a diff.

fitsugar.com is a good resource too for stuff like that.

or you could start smoking. JOKING. lol.

what about sweet fruits? dried fruits are way too much sugar, but they’d still be better for you than candy bars. i love figs, mangos, dates, PRUNES, etc.

i have a new appreciation for my salt addiction … except for the bloating/dehydration/everything else is horrible

love,
r (officially de-lurking, lol)

umm, first of all, how the fuck do you turn down a brownie? i’d really like to learn how to do that.

also, the quitting soda thing is going to happen soon. we’re actually allowing ourselves to drink diet soda, but i’m going to stop myself (okay, maybe one…) because that’s what i hear.

checking out fitsugar.com now (thanks!)

yes, love the sweet fruits. i’m a big fan of strawberries, watermelon, mangos and cantaloupe, not that any of those are too good for you, but it’s definitely better than that snickers bar i’ve been eyeing.

thank you for your awesome lurking. i appreciate it. πŸ™‚
